The PSAT/NMSQT helps educators at every level promote college readiness. It is a standardized test cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Who Takes the PSAT/NMSQT
Over 3.6 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT each year. Only 11th-grade students can qualify for scholarships and recognition, but younger students benefit from early feedback on their skills. We strongly recommend all our 9th grade students take the PSAT in the fall.

The PSAT and the SAT are changing

The College Board is launching a redesigned SAT in March 2016 and a redesigned PSAT/NMSQT and PSATTM 8/9 in October 2015. Closely aligned to challenging classroom work, the redesigned assessments will focus on the few things that evidence shows matter most for college and career readiness. The exams will be clearer and more open than any in the College Board’s history. Students and teachers will know what is covered on the exam.
